Memory specs

This probally doesn't belong here, but y'all look like you know your
hardware.
Does anyone know where I can find specs on memory (what pins are used
for what, how to access it).  It can really be any memory, SIMM, DIMM,
EDO, I don't care.
The reason I'm asking is I want to build something that will keep track
of things (wheel rotations if you must know) and I thought it might be
easiest to just use normal computer memory and wire it up to my thingy.
