Q: DIY Chorded keyboard info

While I wait for the dataegg to come to market, I want to
try to build my own portable chorded keypad. Can anyone
point me to information source on:
1) the chording standard for the alphabet
2) any notes/algorithm on debouncing chorded keys
3) tips and tricks on hardware
4) pass attempts

I am thinking about something like using the basic stamp
as the controller and have the device output rs323 ascii
so that it emulates a TTY (at least the input part).

thanks,
P.K.
