You can find a alot of refurbished/used computers in newsgroups or
elsewhere on the net, many at the manufacturuer's web site, that you can
take off the screen mount it on your dashboard and put the cpu somewhere
else. You could also take the screen off altogether and put it in the top
of one of those army vests which have a large pocket in the back, then
plug all your wearable I/O devices into it to make a powerfull and
relatively cheap, but largish wearable.

Panasonic was going to come out with a CDROM drive that had skip
protection for use with portable computers, but I have not seen it yet.
this would be great for a wearable or in a car pc due to the vibrations,
though not so needed on a typical portable due to the fact that they are
usually on a shock absorbing lap or a table.
