Yes, the NetWinder is an interesting base system. The form factor is
particularly nice - at 9"x6"x2" and less than 2Kg, one could hook up
a Twiddler, a VGA HUD and a DC power supply and have a wearable Linux
box suitable for a chest harness or tiny backpack immediately. Also
nice is the price - my 64MB/3.2GB NetWinder cost under a thousand US
including shipping.
The fan is controlled by a software-adjustable thermostat. There are 2
Ethernet ports - 10BT and 10/100. There's a really fast StrongArm CPU,
and serial/parallel/kbd/VGA and (currently unsupported) NTSC video in/
out.
Problems: the case isn't ruggedized. There aren't any PCMCIA card slots.
You need to find a good battery system. You need to find a decent HUD.
If only those glasses-HUD people would come out with a product at a
reasonable price!
