Computer-wearing citizens alert: The Connectix QuickCam VC (USB Version, and probably also the Parallel as well) does not have an easily removeable IR filter. If you intend to use a computer video camera for night-vision, these new models of the QuickCam VC are not suitable. Inside the QuickCam's casing, the camera element is sealed. Whatever IR filter may be inside the camera is not accessible, without 'breaking' open the camera assembly cylinder. Doing such, would probably destory the camera, unless you can rebuild a new lens assembly. This was disappointing, considering I purchased this camera exclusively to use as a night-vision camera. I would suggest anyone interested in night-vision with the QuickCams find the older B&W versions, which are confirmed to work for night-vision and have an easily removeable IR filter. Not to mention the picture quality being downright awful... The VC stands for video-conferencing, which I take it means that the camera is not designed for picture quality but instead for a performance/price trade-off. - jason -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
