Re: quickcam IR?

I have a Quick Cam grey scale model mounted on binoculars with a video light
and IR filter below. I have removed the greenish blue IR filter that comes with
the camera. It has good low light performance. The IR filter I have does let
through a little red light. Next time I'll go a little longer in wavelength
when I specify the cutoff point of the filter.

There is a picture at users.aol.com/ReplikonVA called CasioDoor.bmp which shows
a close up taken with the Quick Cam of a little picture hanger that holds the
door of my Casio camera shut. The hand cord shown looks grey. To human eyes it
is dead black. There was no added IR illumination for that shot. The infrared
light reflected from that cord is ambient. It may fluoresce (sp?) though.

It's loads of fun, but it's not night vision unless you have goggles. There is
a similar filter in the Casio camera. I have the QV-10A. It's much harder to
remove.

Lenses that fit the grey scale Quick Cam are available from Edmund Scientific.
I think the threads are 12mm x 0.75mm pitch.

If you do try to remove the filter, try not to crack it. It restores natural
tones to pictures of trees, sky, and other things after you are done with your
experiments.
