Need small, square LCD / R-Zone Hacking

Hi all, I'mlooking for a source of a small, square LCD panel, a little less
than an inch square, would prefer  transparent, but a backplane is okay.

The ide is this: I had the idea of hacking the old R-Zone toy from Tiger
Electronics.  Its a really hard unit to explain, but its like the camcorder
HMDs.  A lamp projects light through an LCD panel, that is then reflected
onto a semi-reflective plate, slightly convex, then into your eye.  I just
thought one day that it would make a keen HMDs, giving you use a bit of
tweak-magic on it. The best part is the price: 15-20 dollars US in most toy
stores and it comes with a kiien Star Wars (tm) game, too.  Any thoughts?
