-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Neat idea. To bring it somewhat on-topic, what if you set up a network hookup in the passenger compartment - your choice as to number of nodes, and then you could plug your wearable into the network, log in, and, with the right software, instant heads-up display for the driver. I know, I'm also thinking about the possible driving hazards, but aren't there some monocular displays that are transparent, so that the projected image appears to be "floating" in front of you? *I* like the idea anyway :) - -----Original Message----- From: Ryan Grace [mailto:] Sent: Thursday, April 27, 2000 2:33 PM To: Wear hard Subject: CarOS and wireless display? Hi All, So if you're all not aware yet, there's a CarOS project that been started at SourceForge. Check it out at http://caros.sourceforge.net if you're interested in participating. It's just begun, in the planning stages, so the more the merrier. We're interested in creating an OS for use primarily in a car. Probably a custom Linux distribution. But there's also the hardware planning side of it. Which leads me to my question... I've been thinking about how to best get a computer into my car for a while now. I've decided on mounting a reduced-footprint PC in a custom enclosure in the trunk with a power inverter, for lack of a better, affordable power supply. I'd like to be able to run X on it if I want to and have an lcd screen, keyboard, and trackball in the passenger compartment. The obstacle I'd like to hear ideas about overcoming is how to overcome the necessity of a video cable from the trunk to the screen in the passenger compartment. I'd prefer to go wireless for maximum portability, but don't see how I can avoid it without adding lots of bulk to the screen. Power for it will be from the cigarette lighter, I'm hoping.
