Has anyone ever heard of the Panasonic DataPartner
series of computers? I just picked one up at a flea market,
and managed to get it working. Seems like it could make
a simple little wearable, with very little mass. It's only
slightly heavier than my palmtop, and the price was definitely
right. Being a data-collection tool, it's also got interfaces out
the wazoo, and it is ruggedized.
Anyway, it's a model JT-780, which is a DOS machine,
v2.11. It's got a cute little LCD, too...20 cols x 8 lines...and
an alphabetic keyboard. With the exception of the DOS
prompt, and of course the size, it reminds me a bit of my
old TRS-80 Model 100.
OK, so it's not a PIII/1Ghz machine. For $2, I couldn't go
wrong. :-) Besides, it's fun to "go slumming" every now
and then. Old computers are fun!
Here's the down side. It's only got 256K of internal RAM. A
RAM expansion hack would be a nice thing, as would the
pinout for the "clip on" modem connector. I think I found
the discrete (though SMT) RAM chips, so I at least have a
clue what goes where on the main board.
Panasonic's web site does not even acknowledge this model,
but it does acknowledge its successor, the JT-781. It's been
precious little help.
Thanks in advance.
