Your HUD,, (IF it's an HMD) "someday"!! should could would aid the #1 cause of accidents; "distraction" by giving you a safer augmented improved field of information. i.e. Maybe you were reading the phone keypad, or Mp3 controls,, its right at your horizon (traffic line),, maybe in a softer focus than the obstacles,, a kid on a bike?,, which is then seen by (your exo self) the car's IR & its relative/space/time calc,, and the display closes quick, maybe wire framing the kid brightly?, but no matter the car already is slowing, steering,, but,,,, scarring you enough so you don't get lazy and give up control! You fall asleep?,, your pupil tracker calls up a random (till its successful) selection of contrasting strobe bright opaque bright, sounds, tactile sharp/shocks, etc. Fog penetrating vision overlay, Car / Obstacle trajectory calculations giving you some extra time, Oh maybe some car chase/race game's virtual competition? (kidding?) << The best idea is to project information onto your windshield. Bonneville SSE (I think) does that for speedometer and some other sensors, but its quite lacking.
