Re: Smart card exploration software? (somewhat OT) (fwd)

We're in luck!

" i use a netsignia 210 smartcard programmer with a serial interface, and
two pieces of software, both specifically designed for working with DTV H
series access cards, BasicH and WinExplorer"

Says a friend of mine.

Mind you, HU series cards can't be hacked effectively (yet), and if you're
not paying for any of your service at all, you probably deserve to be
dragged to prison for stealing TV service. :-)
Seriously, I see nothing wrong with occasionally adding channels
to your service, and in fact, in a way, it's a good thing. The system
will eventually ECM your card back to what you normally get anyway, but in
the meantime, they've still billed you for basic service, which is the key
moneymaker for them. Cable and DSS are like razors and videogame
consoles. The hardware (or razor handle) is sold at a loss. If you're
pirating the whole damn service, then you *are* hurting them a lot.
However, in the case of DSS, they don't track you down and toss you in
jail. They just boost security. So the more hacking, the better for
them. It results in a higher quality product.

Anyway, happy hunting!
