Well, I took the summer off from Cyborg life primarily because I fried =
my Magio in the spring. (It really held up great to alot of abuse but =
couldn't stand it when I (in a hasty attempt to reconnect a broken =
connection) ran 15V where the 7.2V should go. eeek.)=20

I've recently re-oriented Extreme Computing and if you haven't been =
there for a while there are some things you may find interesting. This =
new direction for the site is hinged upon something that's important to =
most of us, namely, low prices. I have listed the products important to =
wearable computing by linking to the lowest prices available (Bluetooth, =
Glasstron, Espresso, etc) but I've also included PDA (iPaq h3650, etc) =
and notebook links. http://extremecomputing.com/index.html
=20
I'd really like your help in keeping the news and deals updated (for =
instance, where are you buying the Espresso for $799?, the best price =
I've seen is $899). I know there are some like minded deal hounds on =
this list. If you find a deal, send me an email and I'll post it.=20

Since my full blown wearable was out of commission, I went back to work =
on the Palm wearable. A few pictures are here: =
http://extremecomputing.com/palm1formoun.html . The next step is to turn =
the Palm M100 into a baseball cap mounted HMD.=20

Also, I'd like to keep the updates going on the wearable users groups =
page: http://extremecomputing.com/regusgroup.html if you have a new =
group, I'll list it.=20

The site as a whole is kind of a mess right now as I try to establish =
the news & deals page as the crux of the operation. I'm working to clean =
it up. If you have any suggestions, I'm open.

We have 3 Twiddler Is left in stock and Chris tells me there probably =
won't be any more until after the Twiddler IIs are produced (~2 months). =
So if you need one, here they are: =
http://extremecomputing.com/in-twidi.html

I should have my wearable back up and online in a few weeks, I'm hoping =
to get my wearable webcam back up before Comdex (anyone else going?). =
I'll probably run the broadcast right to the extreme computing front =
page.
=20
About the recent Magio thread: The Libretto (hey what about that new =
Libretto 1100v - do you think the remote could be hacked into an input =
device? http://www.dynamism.com/1100/index.shtml) may be good if you =
plan to go the convertible route, but the clincher for the Magio is the =
standard 7.2v NP-FXXX (I stocked up on the RCA version when they were =
clearanced at 10 bucks at Walmart - those libretto batteries are so =
expensive) operation which makes power issues very simple and also works =
really well with the M1. Also, when you yank the display and casing off =
the magio you really get a nice flat package (albeit still a little =
large) which is good if you aren't going for a convertible. That said, =
things are really changing fast now with the iPaq 3600 and the Espresso =
in the picture, so the Magio is not such a clear cut starting point for =
a wearable anymore.=20

I've stayed away from the embedded products on extreme computing only =
because I haven't paid much attention to them. I also expect that the =
big push for wearable computing will be in integrated packages like the =
IBM wearable and espresso. However, I'd like to list deals on embedded =
components if you send them in my direction.=20

This overdue update is getting a little lengthy, hopefully it won't be =
another 4 months before I post again ;-)

Brian
