> How do people protect there HDD's???
I stick it in a metal box along with the rest of the computer.
On the outside edges of the case I have split surgical tubing to provide
some additional impact absorbtion.
The metal box is designed so the HD semi floats in it. I placed rubber
foot pads at each corner of the HD case between the HD and box wall.
Looking from the bottom as if you were looking thorugh the metal case:
B = rubber foot pad
s = screw into side of HD, in mounting hole.
S = screw into side of case, (actually a screw through a hole and
lockwasher/nut on inside of case.)
/ \ = Wire run from screw to screw. It's wrapped around the screw then
the screw tightened down. I did this rather than making a hard
bracket. This allows for some flexing of the box wall without
effecting the HD.
