I know Greg Priest-dorman uses his for extended periods (as he will doubtlessly be able to confirm) and the tiny text is quite usable when "assisted" by speech like emacspeak. > - The manual says it runs off 9 volts, and I have > a power adapter, but how do I power the unit > when mobile? You can feed it with 9-15V (I believe) or you can supply it with +5V directly by opening it up. Details on the tekgear site. > - What do I have to do to increase the font size > in the linux console? What sizes are you using? SVGATextmode shouldd do it. Lots of modelines on Greg's site as well as tekgear (who has linked to Greg's modelines, I believe) > - Is there a separate font configuration for emacs > or does it inherit the console font settings? It does support X though. Steve Mann had a post a while ago with glinaccess which, among other things, provided large-font x terms. I use it all the time. > - Has anyone ripped apart the eyepeice to see what > is inside? Any idea if this can be hacked to > make it smaller? I am disappointed with the > length of the eyepeice ... But of course! http://aeinnovations.com/projects/m1-hmd/ I have since updated the design and have some new pics to put up sometime. If you'd like to make your own version, let me know and I can share some of the things I learned which may make things easier. Don P http://aeinnovations.com
