Doug, I am thrilled at your enthusiasm but I must say, before you post, you might want to try searching the archive at http://wearables.blu.org to see if your questions have been asked before. By all means if you do not find answers to your questions, then ask, but some of the time, you will find what you seek in the archive. Ok, on to your post... >>>>> "Doug" == Doug Sutherland <> writes: Doug> Guys,... I finally gave in and bought an M1 Personal Viewer. I use it for a good chunk of each day, I would say from 2 hours (min) to 20 hours (max) 5 to 6 days a week. Doug> - The manual says it runs off 9 volts... Not quite, the manual says it runs off 8 - 12 volts and that it comes with a 9 volt adapter. 8-12 is conservative. As Don and others have pointed out there are quite a few hacks listed on the tec section of the M1 site. as well as peoples personal sites. I give the the M1 5v as described on the tekgear site. I find my power regulator is a bit more efficient than the one in the M1. But for several years I just used the one in the M1 to deal with the power off my Sony's (at that time, in series). I have also used the parallel port to provide a software on/off switch for the M1. This worked very nicely and also extended battery life. At this point I find I leave the M1 on all day. Part of this is paranoia. Since ViaVoice dies some time, I am afraid I will miss an apointment or a reminder if I only rely on sound. Doug> - What do I have to do to increase the font size in the linux Doug> console? What sizes are you using? Severl folks have already told you about svgatextmode, it is also in the archive and info about it is on the tekgear site. Doug> - Is there a separate font configuration for emacs or does it Doug> inherit the console font settings? If you are at the console, it inherits. But it totally rolls with svgatextmode changes, so you can change textmodes in another virtual console and when you return to the one with emacs in it all will be resized appropriately. If you are in X emacs gets to choise its own fonts. Doug> - Is anyone using the M1 with x-windows, or is it only used for Doug> console based applications? I use X if/when I must. Usually to show someone the particular app they want to see. It works fine, I just don't need it for anything so I don't use it. Doug> - Has anyone ripped apart the eyepeice to see what is inside? Doug> Any idea if this can be hacked to make it smaller? I am Doug> disappointed with the length of the eyepeice ... It is not hard to pop off the case, make it smaller and put it back together. Get a can of air first. Dirt in the M1 is a pain. Two weeks ago (the night after ISWC to be precise) I made my M1 smaller again, but I have not taken pictures of it yet. I will post once they are up. Others (as you can see in the archive, the Tekgear site, and others posts) have done much more than cosmetic changes to their M1. Again, I urge you to use some of your demonstrated research skills on the wearhard archive. Doug> Thanks in advance. No problem, glad to have you on the list! Greg -- Greg Priest-Dorman
