Could you please help me compare the Adventech PCM-5822 and Jumptec MOPS 686+? Both have 2 serial ports, parallel, IDE, floppy. MOPS has some (don't know which) keyboard interface, PCM-5822 has PS/2. Both are Pentiums 166MHz, though with different chipsets. Both have 10/100 ethernet (optional on MOPS). PCM-5822 has both VGA and LCD I believe. MOPS apparently can support both but you must choose which option. PCM-5822 has NTSC, not MOPS. I did not find specs of the VGA capabilities of the MOPS, I suppose it is quite basic whereas PCM-5822 is designed for multimedia... but I personally do not need elaborate video and would be glad to save the power. PCM-5822 has sound, which the MOPS doesn't. As we've been discussing however, Linux does not support full-duplex and probably not even straight recording on the Cyrix mediaGX used by the PCM-5822. So I'm assuming I'll have to add another board for sound. How do they compare in size, connectors, ... whatever else... How is Linux support on the MOPS? F.E. what chip is use for ethernet? And most importantly, how do they compare in terms of power consumption? I'm a bit confused here: - Doug has his PCM-5822: says it lasts 2.5hours with 10.8V 3.2Ah battery -> something like 14W consumption for the whole system. That would include his HD, LCD, microcontrolers, GPS, and any loss from the power regulator. - If I understand correctly, Greg has the MOPS: says over 5hours with one NP-F960 battery -> something like 7-8W consumption for the whole system. Well he must be doing some power management, because if I understand right, his system includes an HD and an M1, plus loss in the regulator, while the MOPS is rated at 8W typical. So I guess they are not using their systems in the same way... 5hours sounds so good, too good...! Also, can anyone estimate the added consumption if I were to add a Crystal-MM + some PCMCIA board with wireless LAN to a system? Thanks for any hints -- Stéphane Doyon <>
