It's strange that the BIOS will not detect the microdrive when you're in BIOS, yet if the HDD settings are set to "auto" in the BIOS, the BIOS does auto detect the microdrive. Try setting the PCM-5822 BIOS to "auto" for both the primary and secondary IDE masters, then boot with the microdrive. You should see it show up in the BIOS messages as an autodetected secondary master.
