However, the rollouts they've been promising were held up by the extended beta period for the Ricochet2 network. It's going to be SWEET! Currently, ricochet has two big strikes against it: 1- I usualy get ~10% packet loss (terrible on interactive processes like telnet) 2- average 500-750ms latency. OUCH! However, the new network I saw virtually no packet loss and the latency was down to 150-200ms, about the same as a modem. Tolerable and yes, the bandwidth goes up by a lot. 128kbit they say, I got double my existing speed with my old 1st generation modem. according to netscape, I got ~8kb/sec downloads! The rollout here in the bay area isn't scheduled until mid-to-late summer, but I'm not holding my breath.
