RE: CDPD modems...

Startband.com offer a up & down satellite aimed at those who
can't get DSL or Cable.

"StarBand consumers can expect Internet access with download speed up to 500
kbps and upload speed bursting up to 150 kbps. For download, the minimum
speed will be 150 kbps. The average upload speed will be 50 kbps, depending
on usage during peak hours. "

As with all satellites latency is the only problem.

No, nothing stopping you short of yourupline connection. However
everytime you parked your car, you would have to calibrate it with
the satellite, but that is maybe 10minutes, i guess.

I know the standard method of lineing up the dish is to use a
television set.

Its only real selling point is ~400kbps downstream. uploads are
limited by your dialup connection.

Of course if money is no object, you can get two way hookups but
expect to spend a lot.

My data is dated to say the least, as i really only checked in to it
over 3 years ago, prior to local dsl/cable rollouts.
