in any low power wireless tech, you really need direct line of sight. no
trees.  You'll have to put up a higher pole to get over the trees, or move
around them.

yes, using high gain focused antennas is possible.  Legality is
questionable.  I'm not totally familiar with the FCC's laws in this band.

If you go beyond a no code tech, there are high frequency bands that
offer more bandwidth.  They're still limited by the "everything must be
in the clear" policy; no encryption, no privacy.

There are some proprietary point-to-point network solutions, but they're
expensive. $2k per end is the usual price. Range can be upto 10km, though.
