The old Ricochet supported a bridge mode to a local modem and then air link to a lap top on another unit. You can also do this in a ricochet coverage area by changing the network id. That is how the pole top routers recognize the radios. If it does not have the 1 or 3 Network address, the routers ignore the radio (thought they hear it). Some folks, I know in Seattle found a bunch of bricks that are not longer registered on the network and since Metricom no longer supports the 28K service except on a legacy basis - none of their units would register. So they have been using their own little air net to a DSL link to the internet. Note it you set the baud rate to 56 k on the setup, the serial connection will dump the buffer much faster and you will get some streaming rates that are impressive. cb -----Original Message----- From: Doug Sutherland <> To:
