Making a display smaller than your finger nail isn't all that easy. Making it display the same number of pixels as a 15inch monitor isn't that easy. Making it seem to your eye that it is actualy 17inches wide and hanging a foot in front of you is 'simple' but still isn't easy Designing it so that it fits into a form factor that is both socialy acceptable and functional isn't easy Designing the electronics to drive it, isn't easy Making those electronics small enough isn't easy Just becuase it's a simple idea, that may even work on simple principles doesn't mean that it's "easy" to make work. A lot of people have been working on this, and have made HUGE advancements in the past few years. Micoroptical put a monitor IN GLASSES! Tekgear sells the M1 and M2 Don Papp, Cliff Long, and others have remounted hardware into glasses Steve Mann has come up with a virtual retinal display that is relativly TINY I'm not saying it's imposible, or that it will never be done. But the repeated expectation that it should have been done by now makes me think that people don't have apriciation for what is availeable and the work that has gone into all of it. To me it's 'easy' if I can do it AND tell other people how to do it. It's 'simple' if I can explain the concept. It's a 'hard' thing if I can't learn about it :-) BTW: This wasn't ment to be a flame. I hope it is take as exactly oposit that. I'd like to point out that many people are doing realy good work in this area and making something that is STILL mostly a science fiction idea into a reality Is there a FAQ for this list? If so I think the line "A 1024x768 color HMD embeded in a pair of sunglasses may SOUND easy.. but it's not" M@ -- Subscription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to
