I've been seeing a lot of requests for plug-n-charge charge-control power management systems on this list. Li-Ion, while having its advantages, is extremely volotile, explosive, and is very sensitive to temperature. Well, I actually haven't built a wearable computer yet, but I am working on homebrew robotic electronics. In my research for different dedicated ICs from various manufacturers, I've come across this section on TI's website. Their "Wireless Power Management" product tree. There is one device that seems to completely fit the needs of a wearable user. TWL2213CA, Power Supply Management IC and Li-ion Battery Charge Control http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/productfolder.jhtml?genericPartNumber=TWL2213C A&familyId=130 While designed for cellphone use (it has integrated vibrator and ringer drivers), it supports charge control for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer packs, battery temperature sensing, and supports auto-charging when power is supplied from a wall-wart. Another device, while not as fancy, has free product samples available from TI. http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/productfolder.jhtml?genericPartNumber=TWL2203& familyId=130 I'm currently working with the second device. Once I get a working circuit, I'll let the list know what my findings are. --man Michael A. Nachbaur "Lead me not into temptation...
