No, I'm using the 44-pin LCD header with this cable:

I have tried NTSC panels and they can't be compared to VGA.

6.4" diagonal VGA resolution. I want to try the toshiba 4" VGA LCD
eventually to see if its still usable at that size.

No, the LCD image looks great. It's hard to capture on camera, and 
the shot was taken with a poor quality camera. The LCD is running 
32 bpp color 640x480 and looks just like a laptop screen but small.
I don't use CRTs anymore at all, I do everything on this screen.
Java3D looks really cool running on this little display.
