The winning project at the Intel ISEF (International
Science and Engineering Fair) was Ryan Patterson's
"The Sign Translator."  I don't remember the
specifics, but I believe he developed a glove &
associated PICs & software to let a computer interpret
sign language.  He was measuring changes in current
flow through the glove to determine the relative
positions of the fingers - I think.  While a chorded
keyboard is probably better, it's still something to
think about.  -Michael
