I've been looking at camera viewfinder, and let me warn you that it isn't easy. Not very many camera repair places have broken cameras sitting around and purchasing them on ebay is tough because you need to be sure you have the pinouts and if it isn't NTSC or SVGA, you need to know how to convert it to whatever it is. I'm not sure this is really a possible solution for an HMD although if you think you can do it, don't let me stop you. it definitely is a CHEAP alternative.
