I wish it worked that way and it was that easy. Basically the winning bidder
(bogus or not) can have the winning bid and also have a "Maximum Bid" which
is done instantaneous by the eBay system. Basically if anyone bids above the
current bogus bid the bogus maximum bid will increase until it reaches a
point where the seller can make money and the legit bid will stand...this
can all be done automatically by the eBay system in a fraction of a second.
This is just one example of standard eBay manipulation.

have you considered not voting on it until the last 10 seconds?  That would
force them to sell it..  I think you can even setup a timed bot to do that.
