Its an immersive display that covers both eyes, its intended to completely focus you on the audio and video, for watching movies on an airplane or moving through a VR world. Its pretty hard to walk around with both eyes covered. > Meaning: If I'm thinking of shelling out the cash for a Cy, > and care about appearances and maneauverability, should I > rethink my decision. Most of us do not want immersive displays like those commonly used in virtual reality. Instead, we want augmented reality or mediated reality, where we can see both the computer screen and our environment. Problem is, the really nice mono displays are selling for more than we can afford. So people are modifying the cheaper displays to get as close as possible to what we want. You can go with mono M1 or Liteye-100, they only cover one eye, but they are really just text-based environments running at say 15 lines/50 characters text (using SVGATextMode). The reason I suggest Cy-Visor is that it can do exactly what you can do on a CRT monitor (most importantly run x-windows at reasonable resolution). It really depends on what your needs for mobility are, and whether you want the immersive or augmented modality. Also whether you are willing to rip apart the display and modify. > Or maybe wait for something more adequate? If you wait for HMDs it will be a long wait. There are other viable mobile displays using small TFT LCD flat panels and even smaller text/graphics LCDs. I want them all. They all have their place. Even if I had a VGA HMD I would still want to have my 6.4" TFT LCD as an external peripheral. I think I would get pretty dizzy wearing a display for 12 hours. > Also, on price: www.tekgear.ca has a Cy for $875, is > this the same model that gets frequent talks on this > list?
