You would have to check the FCC listing on the device - use Search and the
FCC number.  Look to see what the allowable power out is or check the CCC
number at the Canadian site.  If it is 36 dBm ERP than you can probably
legally use a 6 dBi antenna.  The units are rated at 1 Watt - 30 dBm.
Typically the power out is less than that so you
should be good to go.  The big problem is finding a cable/antenna adapter.
Otherwise, soldering a new antenna connection would require breaking the
case and altering the approved unit.  This would probably require a new sub
mission of an altered device.  You should check with the local authorities.
