Of course, I suppose it could be calling for help and reporting your GPS position. :-) Try adding on a "Boosteroo" headphone amplifier. I've seen them on sale for less than $10. I had previously built an amp myself, but it was much bulkier and more prone to damage than the Boosteroo.
