Ralph, The main difficulty with providing a generic procedure for making viewfinder HMDs is that the inputs vary so much between models. Some (eg. most Sony Handycams) accept a simple power-ground-composite video arrangement and can be converted easily. Others require the horizontal and vertical scanning signals separately. Converting them requires either access to those signals from your video chip or building a circuit to extract them (generally a single chip now but requires some electronic knowledge). Others still, especially LCD viewfinders may require digital inputs in whatever mix and format excited the designers that particular day. The best place I've found to get pinout information is the sci. electronics.repair newsgroup. Some of the regulars have libraries of camcorder service manuals and are happy to provide the pinouts.
