Actually, I've got that mouse you speak of. It was called "supermouse", the 
rubber keys are removeable but I felt I could not use the controller as it 
was both physically linked to the mouse control board and the key press was 
something I've not seen before. Some kind of hard plastic tip inside the 
rubber keys made contact with the keypad surface on the controller board 
and made some kind of electrontic contact. Once I saw this I knew it was 
outside my abilities. ;-) Currently anyway.
