Actually I'm trying to do that with the system I'm building.
I wan tto use 2 pre-made (and maybe slightly modified) aluminium-cases for
self-build electronics and seal them up with rubber before tightening 
the screws.
One box for the batteries (later separated into charger+dc-regulator and 
2 battery-boxes)
and one (maybe thinned) for the SBC+display-controller+hdd,... . I'm 
just not shure
about the display but I think I'll take it apart some time after ISWC, 
make the lens
adjustable (by using motherboard-spacers that can be turned to adjust 
all 4 edges of
lens and display), replace the mirror with a half-silvered one and once 
everything is
perfect build a case of plastic. This friendly-plastic looks good for 
that job, even though
I'd probably need to have it shipped.
