Bryan,

A few months ago when I purchased the Advantech 5822 and companion PC/104
PCMCIA board, I figured I couldn't go wrong by having a stack height of just
2. With the extra long board that the 5822 is, I had just enough room to
put the HD above it inside the case. While it is nice to have all this
self-contained in one box, part of my goal was to spread much of the
components around my vest.

The thought of being able to go with a multimedia-enabled true-sized PC/104
board (90mm x 96mm) and use USB for all radios instead of PCMCIA is
intriguing. Total stack size: 1. The challenges remaining are protecting
the now external harddrive and finding real estate for all the connectors
coming out of a 100mm x 115mm x 25mm box. (Extra length needed for internal
connector room)

For now, I'm fairly content with the 5822 enclosure. I'm able to keep the
HD, DC/DC converter, and 2 PCMCIA cards inside the single box. While it's
not as small as the a single stack enclosure would be, it only adds a little
extra width and gains the ability to internalize the HD. I guess it all
comes down to how much width you're willing to deal with or how much you're
willing to separate the components. What kind of method of wearing are you
going with?
