Having just gone the other way I have to say that having it all on one board
is just to thick. One of the reasons that I changed from the EM-350 to the
PC-2553 is the depth of the board. 'The Plan'(Tm) is to extend the PC-104
connection so that I can have a PCMCIA board that is not right on top of the
main board. Hopefully this will give me the distrobution that I need without
adding to depth, and if not, I can live without the wireless connection.
The 10bT connection on the EM-350 never work anyway (without 12V that is)
So my main use for the PCMCIA was my WLAN card. I still need to solve the
problem of connectivity to my home network, but I can do it through the
parallel or serial ports if I have to.. all I they really need to send back
and forth are my mail and an mp3 once in awhile :-)

I'm fighting the same 'battle of the bulk' as well as power consumption, and
finding that less is better (to a point). I'm really trying to get it down
to only the parts I use.

Now the difference in our situations is that you have good wireless options
I've looked into GoAmerica again and am almost ready to do it, but I can't
find a PCMCIA RIM card. I did a search and found some pages that looked
really out dated, and were selling them for $235+ but for 9k/sec I'm not sure
that's exactly reasonable :-)
Then again it may be the only option, in which case I think I can live without
the wireless connection for awhile longer. This really allows me to go without
PCMCIA for longer..

(who really wants Lanner to get moving and send him his PC-2553!)
