If that daughter board is just a header expansion (ie no real circuitry), then it should be trivial to ditch the daughter board altogether and make custom cable that attach directly to the headers on the PC-2553. The cables for PS/2, VGA, and serial ports will be very easy. The cables for ethernet and audio will be a bit harder but should also be doable. I can probably help you do that when you're in the bay area in March. This PC-2553 sounds like a decent configuration, even with a PC/104 PCMCIA module plugged in. Assuming that the PC-2553 is no fatter than PCM-5822 and has a PC/104 female socket, when mated with a PCMCIA module it would be approx 4 x 4 x 1.5 inches. That's pretty good for a multimedia setup. If a good way to separate the CPU board from the PCMCIA card can be found, it would be very nice indeed. I'll have to check out the PC/104 expansion cables from Ampro (thanks Charles) to see what they look like and how bulky they appear. Six inch expansion might now be so bad (in fact it might be perfect) for mating two 4x4 inch modules. > I probably fall into #2 right now, but I've heard others (Doug mostly :) > wanting for an easily hackable board to get rid of those big ugly connectors. Standard connectors are evil for wearables. They are big and they break and they are often hard to insert and remove. It's not hard to make custom cables and connectors if you have the manufacturer pinouts, it's just tedious and takes time and patience. > This may be it.. I'll know more later this month...
