That's my current plan. At the moment my "main" machine is a trusty old
Tosh Libretto 50CT (with Linux naturally). A friend is selling me his
100CT which will then free up my 50CT for hardware hacking into a
wearable. I think what I'll probably do first is *carefully* remove the
50CT's screen and keyboard and hack some sort of arm (limb, not CPU) based
text I/O as HMD's just don't seem to be cutting it at realistic price
points. The libby's sound output works under Linux but it has no sound
input (though one might be able to be hacked in IIRC).

The 50CT has a single type 2 PCMCIA slot so that'll do nicely for wireless
LAN, Ethernet or dial up connectivity. Biggest problem with the libby is
that the standard battery that I have only lasts about 1.5 hours _and_ it
doesn't charge the battery when plugged into the mains unless the machine
is powered down. Maybe losing the TFT display will extend that battery
life a little but its still not much. Might need to consider some sort of
external belt pack that pretends to be the mains supply if I want to last
for a whole working day (or do shorter working days. Hmmm... :-) ).

Anyway, this is still very much on the drawing board as I'm not going to
start doing anything until I have the 100CT running smoothly. I've also
got to consider what I need the wearable for - it might turn out that my
requirements are actually best dealt with using one of those natty M100
Palm Pilots that everyone else round here seems to have now.

Tatty bye,

Jim'll
