If it's sending plain ascii down the line then I'd say there'd be no noticable difference. It should be pretty obvious what the bandwidth used is like. I suspect there will be only 1 character (8 bits) per keyclick, giving you (at 4800 baud), 600 characters per second (evenly spaced, say 600 potential character "slots" per second).
