I wonder how much the "guts" of a PDA actually cost to manufacture?
I would guess, with a retail price of $99 (Palm M100) that it's 50%
profit, so $50...the case is probably $5, the screen is probably $20,
so we're down to $25. Hmmm...might be very workable. We might
literally be able to get the costs down to true disposable levels!
But, in this project, I propose that we add a language, like ROM
based BASIC, so that the user can customize their computer. The
"classics" all had this, and it made them MUCH more versatile tools.
C64, VIC20, IBM PC, TI99/4A, TRS-80 series, TRS-80 Model
100 laptop (still useful and classic, even today), Timex Sinclair, etc.
Why they don't include a simple BASIC in Palms is beyond me.
