Actually, yahoo's been getting alot of crap lately about spam. Apparently they've been changing their poilicies lately, and automatically subscribing users to a variety of spam, unless you log in and fill out a "don't send me crap" form, which they don't mention to you, you have to find. Not sure how much of this is reality, and how much is my acquaintences paranoia. I'm on 2 yahoo groups, I've had the same address for 8 or 9 years now, and on the whole, I don't get /alot/ of spam. Does seem to have increased in the last few months, could be their fault. Could be my girlfriend, subscribing me to various polls, etc. Who knows. Anyway, I don't like the interface of the searchable archive, but I like the structure of the list as it is. There's alot of talent on this list, probablu alot of servers, and it really doesn't take much to keep things running well, compared to the hassles of advertising, etc. that one gets with the other options. Newsgroups were great when you had to be at a university or working for a defencee contractor (or hacking in), they're kind of a pain now.
