Re: GPS for hardware hackers, $24.95

Hi Vito / Wear-Hard,

I actually bought one of these just over a week ago and I'm pretty
impressed. I have a small handheld unit with a display, but the
antenna on this one seems much better. I can sometimes get co-
ordinates without line-of-sight to satellites e.g. inside a carpark (with
open sides). Also with the antenna sitting in the center console of
my car, it can pick out satellites through the windscreen and side
windows. To get satellites with my older handheld unit it would have
to be mounted on the dash, and it would still only find satellites in
front of the car through the windshield.

Another neat trick with this one is to connect it to a Windows 2000
machine already equipped with a USB mouse. While windows is
booting it seems to think that the GPS is a second mouse on the
serial port and the cursor moves around erratically and left and
right clicks =).

Regards,

Nick
