Lum,
A Taiwanese company showed me a product that they are commercializing in
this area.
However, it uses direct electrical stimulation of the skin to generate
the tactile sensations.
The device looks like a finger-print recognition device.
However, you put your finger on it and get the sensation of not only a
3D surface, but a textured surface!
If this is of interest, then I can dig out their contact info.
They are going into production very soon!
