Hi Ewan Well I wonder, are you going to need to view those images later or you just need to store them and retrieve them at a later time on a computer? The idea would be not to use a full blown PC based system with an OS but rather something around a PIC/AVR microcontroller and a few other chips (for hardware compression?) or even use a microprocessor based system. The challenge would be to take the firewire signals and convert them to some usable format (jpg, tga etc and store on the CF) all without the need for an OS. I've seen a few projects around the Net that were developed around PICs that would read CD ROM or a CF the files on the same so perhaps a bit more research just to give you some perspective on the scope or the requirements. Unfortunatelly Java or even C will not do, you will have to deal with Assembler (microcontroller assembler, derivate of normal Assembler) but luckilly there are plenty of resources on the Net to get going on that. Just thought to toss out what first came to mind, else I'd like to see your project get going (a project page with updates would be cool) -pedja ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ewan Sinclair" <> To: <
