Hi, sounds like you've got a good start. I'm using the PCM-5822 and its a good all-in-one board. You can get it directly from Advantech (www.advantech.com) and the 300Mhz version was $420 last time I checked (if you find that has changed, definitely say something). As for power supply, you'll need to do a little bit of work to make a board that will convert whatever your battery input is to 5V. Theres the PT6302A (I believe made by TI) which you can purchase from Digikey (http://rocky.digikey.com/scripts/ProductInfo.dll?Site=US&V=228&M=PT6302A) for like $25. That'll convert 9-30V to 5V at max. 3A So that should work for most battery configurations as well as wall warts. What batteries you want to use is a whole 'nother ball of yarn (Sony camcorder batteries vs. Laptop batteries). And hopefully by the time you're looking at getting an HMD they'll be reasonably priced!
