although, for those who want both, it might be feasible to use an
external journal on a flash card.  while this would wear out the 
flash eventually, (being mostly used for writes), it should allow one
to use happy ext3 for power failures while reaping the benefits of 
spinning down the disk.  the flash would have to be readable at the
time ext3 is initialized to find external journal, which is doable
on most systems (especially those with built in cf-ide ports).

not sure if it's worth it though.  at the very least, noone wants to 
sit through a 20gb fsck when on battery power.
