you can hook up the laptop batteries in parallel to get more runtime, but
you have to charge them in a laptop or external charger.

You can get regulators that can convert from 12v to 5v.

search the archives and there are two main regulators people use.

On the display page you give, the 2" display and the Olympus probably have
about the same resolution, but the Olympus will be easy to look at up
close for long periods of time. These are NTSC displays only so expect
around 320x240 resolution. Check the archives for SVGATextMode for linux
to use these displays. Or there are tools to run MS Windows at low res.
