Hi Wear-hard, I realise the discussion of smart battery monitoring systems has been raised countless times on wear-hard. As I understand it, several wear-harders are using voltage monitoring systems to prompt them for a shut down or battery hot swap, but nobody has yet worked out the info component of infolithium batteries. I know Doug Sutherland spoke of the Dallas Semiconductor DS2438 some time last year: > Josh @ MIT has tried these out and described them to me offline. They > sound very cool. You could actually have one on each and every cell > if you want, they all connect together on 1-wire microlan using a > single twisted pair. The host program (or microcontroller) can query > the 1-wire bus and each 2438 will chime in with data. Since it seems likely that the infolithiums will take their secret with them to the grave, should we be collaborating to put together a standardised schematic along with PIC assembler to listen to DS2438s and inform the cyborg of their battery status by LED or serial port? I think this would be very valuable for everyone on the list with a homebrew wearable.
