if you look round you can get 1gig versions of pen drives that are pretty 
useful, I know that shentec do a 2 gig one.

Dont know about speed I presume that USB2 are pretty fast, but I noticed that 
Firewire 800 is nearly twice as fast as USB2.

I use them all the time on a xybernaut based system
