Yes, _logically_, there are two things.
But why AV-1 (or another controller) can't do both?

Yes, this it what I want to do: avoid D-A-D conversion
and save on unit cost and power consumption.

I know about BOB-II. Its disadvantages are:
- relatively costly (with RS-170 kit)
- unnessesary D-A-D step
- single font size (and limited screen size in characters)

What I am looking for at the moment is recommendations on the
microcontroller... Have a feeling that I will get stuck with 8051 clone
such as AV-1 (except that RS-232 may be easier to start with).
