PCM-5822 and mono lcd?

I'm interested in driving a monochrome VGA STN lcd panel (an Epson
EG9013FNZ1 that's availible very cheaply from EarthLCD at
http://store.earthlcd.com/s.nl/c.318770/sc.7/it.A/id.1095/category.173/.f
) from the PCM-5822's LCD controller. Can it be done? Now, I don't know
much about LCDs, but I was hoping that I could use just one color
component of the controller connected to the data pins of the mono LCD.
Looking at the LCD's datasheet, however, (
http://www.earthlcd.com/downloads/EG9013FNZ1.pdf ) the LCD has eight
data pins, according to page 4, while the TFT controller on the PCM-5822
only has 6 pins per color (looking at the 5822's manual and at Doug
Sutherland's post about connecting a NEC TFT to the board
http://wearables.blu.org/wear-hard-01/20012481.html ).

As I said before, I don't know much about LCDs. Looking at page 3 of the
monochrome LCD's datasheet seems to imply to me (and again, I don't know
much, so I'm probably totally wrong) that there are only four "real"
"data connections" to the panel. This is a total guess on my part. A
page I found on LCDs in general (
http://www.repairfaq.org/filipg/LINK/F_Tech_LCD1.html#TECHLCD_014 )
seemed to imply that with an LCD like the one I'm interested in, it's
possible to have just 4 pins for the data - a 4-bit wide connection.
Maybe I can leave half of the data pins disconnected?

Any help at all that anyone could give would be incredibly appreciated.
I'll probably go ahead and try this anyway - the LCD is only $30 from
EarthLCD - but I'm pretty sure there are others out there who know more
about LCDs than I do.

Thanks!

Joe
